Description This portrait of Martha Gellhorn was taken for a feature on women in the news in the March 1944 issue of Vogue magazine. She was known for the directness and integrity of her war reporting and her career had many parallels to that of Lee Miller, notably that they both covered the liberation of Dachau concentration camp on 30th April 1945. Martha Gellhorn had recently married the writer Ernest Hemingway, and a photograph of him is pinned to the mirror behind her.
