Description Max Ernst, one of the founders of the Cologne Dada movement in 1919 became the most pre-eminent of the Surrealist painters. He had been a close friend of Lee Miller and Roland Penrose since the 1920’s in Paris. He escaped from France soon after war broke out and went to live in the US. Here he is seen working on the construction of his studio in Sedona, Arizona where he lived with Dorothea Tanning.
